Marvellous Views Hiking the Tyrolean Alps
Lamsenjoch
  • Route: Apengasthof Gramai (1,267m) – Lamsenjoch lodge (1,953m)
  • Duration: 2 h
  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Elevation change: 686m
  • Details:

Gramai Alpine Guesthouse is the starting point for this trip. The route then heads south to Schotterbett and continues straight to Gramaigrund. A steep gravel path then climbs to the lodge. The Lamsenjoch (col) can then be reached in approx. 2 hours, along with its fantastic view of the Falzthurn Valley.

From the Lamsenjoch lodge, it is possible to then continue through the Stallen valley to the Inn valley, or to make a loop via the Hahnkampl (2,082m) to Grami-Hochleger and back to Gramai lodge.

The higher route to the Lamsenspitze (2,508m) is only for experienced hikers, following a scree slope to a vertical cliff. An exposed via ferrata route leads to the Bruder tunnel. After traversing this cave and reaching the other face, stay to the right and follow the cabled but exposed climb to the Lamsenspitze summit. For the climb from the lodge to the summit, budget 2 hours. The rigorous climb is then rewarded by enchanting views of the Karwendel range, as well as the Tuxer Alps and Zillertal Alps.
Sonnjoch
  • Route:  Alpengasthof Gramai (1,267m) - Gramai Hochleger (1,756m) - Sonnjoch (2,457m)
  • Duration: 3.5 h
  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Elevation change: 1,194m
  • Details:

Gramai Alpine guesthouse is the starting point for this trip, where the walls of Sonnjoch peak (1,100m) reach into the sky. The climb requires approx. 3.5 hours, passing along narrow ridges over grass and scree requiring careful footwork.

Gramai-Hochleger is a great base and a perfect place for a break. The view from the Sonnjoch summit is well worth the climb: You will see a kilometre-long ridge of rock to the south from which the Lamsenspitze scrapes the sky.

From Gasthof Gramai inn, hike 20 minutes south to a fork in the trail and stay to the right. Follow a narrow and relatively steep path along a brook - including a waterfall along the way. Then pass through a field of mountain pine over to Gramai-Hochleger. From this location, stay right through meadow terrain, pass through a belt of mountain pine and follow the ascending ridge and a steep flank to the summit ridge.
