Cycling and mountain biking at Achensee Lake
Nestled into thestunning landscape of the Karwendel and Rofan Mountains, the region around the Achensee has everything for both relaxed bike tourists and energetic mountain bikers.
The Achensee region is one of the most popular biking destinations in Tyrol, with over250km of well-marked, dedicated cycling and mountain biking routes. The magical panorama and the unique atmosphere around the lake, along with the charming villages of the region, make every bike tour an experience to remember and guarantee fun and exercise in harmony with nature.
Cycling Experience in the Valley …
For all those who want to enjoy the landscape with gentle but healthy movement, there are numerous bike trips to undertake. The more “moderate” cycling routes lead along the lake shore, in one of the idyllic side valleys, or to the well-known Alpine lodges (Pletzachalm, Gernalm, or Falzturn and Gramaialm) which can also be reached easily from the villages.
…or High up the Mountainside
The challenging and action-packed mountain bike routes at every level of difficulty provide everything needed for thrills and a good workout. Trails, that makes the sports enthusiasts’ heart beat faster, start in the five villages around the Achensee (Pertisau, Maurach, Achenkirch, Steinberg and Wiesing). The perfectly marked and separate, dedicated routes, mostly following forest and farmland trails, are what makes this region thebikers' paradise that it is.
The Karwendel and Rofan Mountains, starting point forthe Karwendel tour, await you with an ultimate mountain biking experience: The 237km long, 5,465m elevation gain, 5,076m descent, Karwendel loop tour is a true challenge and a peak undertaking for hardcore cyclists.
However, your efforts are more than compensated by thebreathtaking natural scenery of the Karwendel Alpine Park, which is considered one of the most beautiful in the entire Alps.
Our Tip:
Route: 463 Buchau – Gramaialm (lodge) – Gernalm (lodge)
Finally, follow the mountain bike route signs; pass the Falzthurnalm lodge to Gramaialm lodge.
The return trip to Maurach can be extended by a trip to the Gernalm lodge. 80% of this route is asphalt road.
