Cycling experience in the valley or high up on the mountains

The Achensee region is a popular biking destination with over 250 km of well-signposted and approved cycling and mountain biking routes.

Cycling experience in the valley...
For all those who want to enjoy the landscape with gentle but healthy movement, there are numerous bike trips to undertake. The more “moderate” cycling routes lead along the lake shore, in one of the idyllic side valleys, or to the well-known alpine huts (Pletzachalm, Gernalm, or Falzturnalm and Gramai Alm) which can also be reached easily from the villages.

… or high up on the mountains
The challenging and action-packed mountain bike routes at every level of difficulty provide everything needed for thrills and a good workout. Trails, that makes the sports enthusiasts’ heart beat faster, start in the five villages around Lake Achen (Pertisau, Maurach, Achenkirch, Steinberg and Wiesing). The perfectly marked and separate, dedicated routes, mostly following forest and farmland trails, are what makes this region the bikers' paradise that it is.

The Karwendel and Rofan mountains, starting point for the Karwendel tour, await with the ultimate mountain biking experience. The 237 km long, 5,465 m elevation gain, 5,076 m descent, Karwendel loop tour is a true challenge and a peak undertaking for hard-core cyclists.

However, your efforts are more than compensated by the breathtaking natural scenery of the Karwendel Alpine Park, which is considered one of the most beautiful in the entire Alps by the locals in-the-know.

Electric biking around Lake Achen

You can explore the Achensee region by electric bike without too much effort. Electric bikes are all the rage as the assistance of the electric motor makes biking less strenuous, thus giving you more time to enjoy the beauty of nature. The battery of the electric bikes can hold out for 40 to 80 kilometres, or approx. five to six hours. The electric bike has a sensor that constantly measures the cyclist's pedal power. An electric motor provides support when the pedal comes into contact. I.e. the electric bike can be both ridden with as well as without the support of the motor.

The Gramai Alm provides in-house electric bikes for rental for € 35.00 per bike including helmet per day purposes. The bikes can be recharged at any of the 11 charging stations across the region. These "E-Bike Stations" are specifically signposted.
