Water sports

Excellent water conditions and ideal wind conditions make the Achensee a hotspot for adventurous water sports enthusiasts. When the wind blows slightly south and the wind is strong north, surfers, sailors and kitesurfers will find what they are looking for. If the wind is light, we recommend a Stand-Up Paddle tour.

Water sports on Lake Achensee
Sailing, surfing and kiting

At Lake Achensee perfect wind conditions often prevail, yet at times they also provide a challenge for surfers, sailors and kite surfers. The light south wind (1-2 Beaufort scale) in the morning and the strong northerly wind (3-5 Beaufort scale) in the afternoon, often tests your power, coordination and gumption in manoeuvring your boats and ‘boards’ across the lake. The infrastructure at Lake Achensee provides water sports enthusiasts of all abilities everything they need to get to know the wind and the water better.

Achensee is also the stage for new trendy sports. SUP, or standup paddle boarding, has also found its way across the Atlantic to Achensee. On a special board – similar to a large surfboard – you paddle while standing up, so your whole body is getting a workout. In all villages near the lake boards and paddles can be rented. The kite school learn2kite offers SUP courses.

There are sailing, surfing and kiting schools in all the holiday villages at Lake Achensee. Here you don’t just get to hire water sports equipment, you can also book a course or a lesson with a pro. Take this opportunity to learn how to kite, surf and sail on Tirol’s largest lake.
